Mt. Pleasant Free Press,Thurs. Oct. 12, 1911, p.6.

New London, Ia; Oct. 9--Gad Lyman son of Oliver and Ann Lyman, was born near Mt. Gilead, Ohio, August 12, 1842, and died at his home in this city October 7, 1911, at the age of sixty nine years. He came to Iowa in 1858. on June 18, 1861 he enlisted in the First Iowa Cavalry and served four years, at the end of which time he re-enlisted and served until the close of the war. He was honorably discharged at Austin, Texas, February 15, 1886[sic]. Mr. Lyman was married to Mary Nugen May 12, 1867, who still survives him. They are: Mrs. Geo. Crabb and Mrs. A. O. Hunter. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Chas. Miltonberger of Albia; Mrs. Sophia Eckels, of Mt. Gilead, Ohio and Mr. Am Lyman of this city, and three grandchildren, Treva, Helen and Lyman Crabb.

When in the army Mr.Lyman was converted and joined the Christian church of the south, and about thirty years later, together with his family, joined the Methodist Protestant church of this city. He was one of the oldest members of the local Masonic lodge and this order will have charge of the funeral services. He was also a member of Wesley Hardin Post, G.A.R. which will attend the funeral in a body. The funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the M.P. church. Rev. Linder, pastor of the church had charge of the services. Interment in the Burge cemetery.
