GONE HOME.

Sudden Death of Mrs. James B. Shaw, of Mt. Pleasant.

The following announcement from the 'Mt. Pleasant Herald' will be sad news to the many friends of the deceased in this city:

Our community was shocked yesterday to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. James B. Shaw, which occurred at the family residence, on Broadway, at eleven o'clock in the forenoon. Few knew of her illness until the news of her death at the hour named was circulated through the city. On Tuesday evening of last week, she and her daughter, Mrs. Callie Marsh, the only child at home, were talking over their plans for the winter, and, awaiting the arrival of her son and family from Kansas. Mrs. Shaw had determined to go to Chicago one week from to-day, to spend the winter in that city with her daughters, Mrs. George and Mrs. James Cook. On Wednesday morning she was taken with a chill, pneumonia following, but no apprehensions were entertained until about four o'clock yesterday morning, when she grew rapidly worse, dying at the hour above mentioned.

Mrs. Shaw's family name was Lydia A. Clark. She was born January 1st, 1811, at Middletown, Connecticut, and when only eighteen months old, came with her parents to Ohio. She was married to her husband, the late James B. Shaw, at Fredericktown, in that state, October 12th, 1829, and came with him to Mt. Pleasant, October, 1852. She was the mother of six children, five of whom were born in Ohio, all are living except her first born. She survived her husband about five years.

Mrs. Shaw was held in high regard by a very large circle of friends, who will long cherish her memory, while her bereaved children, to whom she was a kind and indulgent mother, have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction.

She was for several years an esteemed member of the first Universalist church, of this city, from whose circles she will be especially missed. Her funeral will take place soon after the arrival of her son and other members of the family.

Word has been sent THE HAWKEYE that the funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon.
