Mrs. Speaker Taken In Death

Mrs. Mark F. Speaker, 81, a resident of Fairfield for 34 years, died Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Manor Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant.

Last rites will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Robert Matheus officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Crane-Ewart-Young Funeral Home Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Mrs. Speaker was the former Ida Christine Thorson. She was born Dec. 1, 1891 at Algona, the daughter of T.O. and Katherine Fowler Thorson. She was married to Mark Speaker Sept. 17, 1913. He preceded his wife in death Aug. 6, 1967.

Mrs. Speaker was a member of St. Michael's Church, TTT, DAR and DAC. She is survived by four children: Mrs. Warren Vorhies, Fairfield; Mrs. Margaret Barden, Muscatine; Dr. Robert Speaker, Keota; and James Speaker, Wilmette, Ill.

Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and three sisters and a brother: Blanche Thorson, Mount Pleasant; Mrs. Ruth Nast, Douglas, Wyo.; Mrs. A.E. Turner, Fairfield; and Orville Thorson, Northbook, Ill.

A memorial has been established at St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
