Orville Thompson Morris, 96, of Fairfield, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Born Feb. 10, 1916, on the family farm in rural Hillsboro, he was the son of Rex S. and Mary Thompson Morris. On June 12, 1953, he married F. Ailene Huber in Nashua. She died Dec. 25, 1985.

Mr. Morris worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps, then did truck driving before he joined the Highway Department of Henry County, where he worked 30 years in the county quarry drilling for blasting and driving a rock delivery truck, and in the summer, mowed for the county.

He attended grade school in Hillsboro and Urbana High School.

He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 as a truck driver for Provost Sections 2571st Service Unit of the 43rd Engineers Battalion stationed in the East Indies, Papua and New Guinea and was honorably discharged as a private first class.

He was a member of American Legion Robert Tribby Post 58 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2561, both in Mount Pleasant.

He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family, his brother and his brother's family.

Survivors include one son, Scott Morris of Fairfield; one daughter, Jill Sammons of Fairfield; one sister, Patricia Rose of West Burlington; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
