Mary Barton McElwee

MOUNT PLEASANT - Mary Barton McElwee, 88, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of Round Prairie community, died at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 1994, at Pleasant Manor Care Center.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Beatty Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Glen Richard officiating. Burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery south of Lockridge. Family visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A memorial has been established to the Rev. Gary and Janet Tomberlin, missionaries in Brazil.

Mrs. McElwee was born May 5, 1905, in Henry County, the daughter of David and Ella Lee Barton. She married Thomas E. McElwee on Nov. 6, 1929, at her parents home in Round Prairie. He died Aug. 11, 1989. A homemaker, she was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church.

Surviving are a son, William of Mount Pleasant; a daughter, Sandra Swailes of Woodbridge, Va.; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Three brothers, the Rev. Dale Barton, Earl and J.F., and three sisters, Daisy Stanley, Susie McWilliams and Amy McElwee, preceded her in death.
