Adam Weir we also knew well, both in college and local business circles. He is the last of the five children born to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Clay Weir, a family name known well and with respect throughout southeast Iowa. We think Adam Weir was born on the large 280 acre farm of his parents at Pilot Grove, Lee county. In 1875, H.C. Weir sold his Lee county farm and bought another in Marion township, a few miles northwest of Mt. Pleasant on the Mt. Pleasant and Trenton highway. H.C. Weir was a successful farmer, and before retiring from business, owned about 500 acres of good Marion township land. With the death of Adam Weir, the last of the family has passed away. Edward, whose widow lives here in town with her son, Clay Weir; Marie, who graduated from college with the class of 1887, became the wife of Mr. Carl Williams, so well known in college circles, and whose daughter, Faith Weir Vandagriff, is making her home here, graduated from Wesleyan with the class of 1887. Charles F, who graduated from college with the class of 1891, passed away at his home at Englewood, Ill., last September. And now Adam, the youngest and last of the family. While living in Mt. Pleasant, he served as a trustee of the college eleven years, 1911-1922, and on the executive committee seven years, and for many years a trustee of the Presbyterian church. While living here, Adam Weir was prominent in many activities; banking, merchandizing and other local enterprises. His last residence was the one now owned by this writer, and which was erected on the same location as the one which was immediately previously destroyed by fire. Mr. Adam Weir's wife and a sister, Miss May Davis of North Main street, are surviving him.
