RILEY

Lydia Ann Riley was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Aug 25th, 1821 and died Nov. 18th 1903. Her father, Oliver Riley was a minister to the M.E. Church and was chaplain in a Virginia Regiment during the war of 1812. After the war he went west to Cincinnati, where he was elected principal to a high school, where he died in 1821, two months before the birth of the subject of this notice. Later she came with her mother to Vesoo, Ind., where she was married Aug 9, 1938 to Martin Lee. In 1840 they moved to the then Territory of Iowa and located in Tippecanoe township, Henry County, where they lived together until the death of her husband in April 1900. She was the mother of six children, of this number only two remain, Rev. Jonathan Lee and Miss Mary Lee, both residing near the old home. Mrs lee was a member of the Baptist church from early life until her death. She was a woman of a meek, quiet, Christian disposition. She had been in feeble health for more than fifty years but her last sickness was of short duration. Her death was as one passing into a quiet and peaceful sleep. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.H. Workman of the Glasgow Baptist church. The remains were laid away in the Lamberth Cemetery in hope of resurrection to a better life.
