Jesse O. Scarff

Jesse O. Scarff, 86, of Cheyenne, Wyo., died at 10:17 p.m. Thursday, March 8, 1990, at the Laramie County Memorial Hospital, Cheyenne, Wyo.

Born March 6, 1904, west of Trenton, in Jefferson County, he was the son of Ernest I. and Effie V. Huffman Jeffery. After the death of his mother, he was adopted by John and Emma Scarff. He married Hillary L. Vaughan Oct. 3, 1928, in Mount Pleasant. She died Feb. 4, 1989.

He had worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant for 30 years before moving to Wyoming. He was a volunteer for the Good Will Industries at Cheyenne. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Mount Pleasant, and was Sunday School superintendent and taught Sunday School at the Rome Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sons, Jesse L. Scarff of Reno, Nev., John E. Scarff of Omaha, Neb., Michael G. Scarff of Piano, Texas, and Jeffery D. Scarff of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six daughters, Mrs. Valarie (Ralph) Chipman of Springfield, Mo., Mrs. Noma (Edward) Talbott of Plainfield, Ill., Mrs. Mary (George) Watson of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Linda (Frank) Fisher of Naperville, Ill., Mrs. Diane (Jack) Peters of Highland, Calif., and Mrs. Judy (Ronald) Septer of Cheyenne, Wyo; one foster sister, Ida Waldron of Carson City, Nev.; five half sisters, Mrs. Gladys (Glenn) Poggemiller of West Burlington, Mrs. Frieda (Delbert) Pottorff of Fort Madison, Mrs. Florence (John) Kite of Farmington, Mrs. Virgie (Alva) Rudd of Donnellson, and Velma Little of Kirksville, Mo.; 26 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will begin after noon Thursday with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Weir Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant.

The service for Mr. Scarff will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant with the Rev. Virgil Fry officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
