Howard L. Messer

Howard L. Messer, 44, 306 N. Main, Mt. Pleasant, was found dead on a farm northwest of Rome at 12:15 p.m. Thursday.

He was born Nov. 30, 1932, in Henry County, the son of Christopher and Violet McMillen Messer.

On Dec. 22, 1952, he was married to Miriam J. Lamm in Mt. Pleasant.

He owned and operated the Messer Meat Market in conjunction with Beaver's Food Mart, Mt. Pleasant. He had been associated with the meat market for 28 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are his widow; three sons, Robin H. and Steven H., both at home, and Ted M. of Ames; one daughter, Pamela J., at home; his mother of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers, Charles E. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., Zion T. of Burlington, and Earl S. of Mt. Pleasant.

His father, one daughter, one brother and three sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 26, at the First Presbyterian Church, Mt. Pleasant. The Rev. Ronald McMenamin will officiate with interment in Forest Home Cemetery.

Friends may call as they desire at the Weir-Cookes Funeral Home. Those who wish may contribute to a memorial to the Athletic Department, Iowa Wesleyan College.
