Violet V. Miller

Violet V. Miller, 87, of the New London Care Center, died at 1:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 1989, at the care center.

Born May 30, 1902, at Tuscumbia, Mo., she was the daughter of Thomas C. and Nancy T. Wilcox McMillan. She married Christopher Messer on Jan. 3, 1922, at Mount Pleasant. He preceded her in death. She then married Harold Miller on Nov. 28, 1939, at Washington.

She had farmed with her husband Christopher and had worked for the Sheaffer Pen Co., and Staats in Mount Pleasant. She worked in the glove factory in New London and at the IAAP in Middletown for 10 years until retirement. She was a member of the White Oak Missionary Church, the VFW auxiliary of Mount Pleasant and the Gold Star Mother's Club.

Surviving are three sons, Edward Messer, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Thomas Messer, Burlington, and Earl Messer, Mount Pleasant; one sister, Ruth Shannon, Los Angeles, Calif.; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.

Visitation began at noon today at the Weir Funeral Home, Mount Pleasant. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today.

The funeral service for Mrs. Miller will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 1989, in the White Oak Cemetery north of Rome, with the Rev. Wayne Kamm officiating.

Memorials have been established to the White Oak Cemetery or the New London Care Center.
