Carl R. Black rites Tuesday

Carl R. Black, 66, Route 3, died at 10:21 a.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Clair Odell officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery south of Mount Union.

Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville.

Black had made his home in the Fairfield community for 23 years and was employed at the Fairfield Glove Company for 20 years prior to his retirement.

He was a veteran of World War II and he was a member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Libertyville.

Carl R. Black was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Jefferson County. He was the son of Harry R. and Laura Hummel Black. His marriage to Helen R. Snyder took place Dec. 12, 1945.

In addition to his widow, Black is survived by two sons and a daughter; Frank Black, Savanna, Ga.; Paul Black, Nevada; and Carla Campbell, Mount Pleasant; and his mother Laura Black, Ottumwa.

Other survivors are five grandchildren; three brothers and two sisters, Roy Black, Crawfordsville; Harry Black, Ottumwa; Robert Black, Ottumwa; Ruth Keller, Cantril; and Nellie McAllister, Elvaston, Ill.

Black was preceded in death by his father and a sister.
