J. B. Messenger Taken by Death

John B. Messenger, 76, died this morning about 10:30 at his home at 803 south Avenue C. He had been seriously ill only a few days, but had not been in good health for some time.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Monday afternoon at the L. A. Jones funeral home. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Messenger was born in Henry county, Iowa, on June 24, 1864, a son of David G. and Mary (Harvey) Messenger. He was married November 1889 at Burlington to Nellie M. Riley and they lived at Crawfordsville until 1898, when they moved to Washington.

Mr. Messenger ran the Rock Island pumping station for a number of years and later was employed for several years with the American Pearl company. He was a member of the United Brethren church of Wayland.

His survivors include two daughters, Stella Messenger and Mrs. Mary Williams, and one son, John Messenger, all of Muscatine; two brothers, Charlie, of Washington, and D. J. Messenger, Wayland. His wife died April 23, 1937.
