WILLIAM L. HAMILTON
Born in Ohio in 1847 - Enlisted and Went to the War When Only a Young Lad of Fifteen.

Word was received recently of the death of William L. Hamilton, at his home in Wymore, Nebr. The deceased gentleman was formerly a resident of this city and being an old soldier many of the older residents will remember him. In 1853 when only a small child he came here from Ohio with his parents and when only fifteen years of age enlisted in the Fourth Iowa Cavalry, remaining with them during the war. He was a private in Co. C, Capt. Beckwith being his captain. In May, 1866, the young soldier was married to Miss Lucy Short, of this city. For many years he contracted with the Railroad company, building fences and in 1877 he moved to Kansas. Finally he moved to Wymore, Nebr., where he remained until his death. For the last twelve months the deceased veteran had been suffering from paralysis. Mr. Hamilton was born in Madison county, Ohio, in November 1847, and leaves behind to mourn a husband and a father, a widow, three daughters and two sons. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. John Hamilton, of this city, and four sisters, - Mrs. Martin Tucker, of this city; Mrs. Ann E. Davis, of Wymore, Nebr.; Mrs. James Esslinger, of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. Ellen Leasure, of Melrose, Iowa.
