B.E. SEELEY WELL KNOWN CITIZEN DIES

Benjamin E. Seeley, 74, prominent stockman, farmer and banker, died on Thursday morning at the Harlan House where he had made his home since the death of his wife two years ago.

Members of the hotel staff realized that Mr. Seeley had not appeared at breakfast and found him in a coma in his room. A doctor and ambulance was summoned but death came before they had arrived, presumably from a stroke.

Mr. Seeley was born at La Crew, Iowa, on June 8, 1896, the son of former Senator W. B. and Elizabeth Ketcham Seeley. He attended Mt. Pleasant schools and received a BA degree from the University of Iowa in 1922. The B. E. Seeleys resided for many years on their farm now owned and operated by the Theodore Huenes and later resided at 400 Broadway and on Park Avenue in Mt. Pleasant. He had served as a director of the Henry County Savings Bank for many years and was a director at the time of his death.

Survivors include the three children, Susan [Mrs. Darrell Barker], Dubuque, Judson Seeley, Donnellson; Nancy [Mrs. Robert Beattie], Coyanosa, Tex., twelve grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Florence Lodwick, Burlington, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, in April, 1968.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Crane-Ewart-Young Funeral Home.
