MRS. EVA HILLS, TEACHER 51 1/2 YEARS, TAKEN BY DEATH

Mrs. Herbert Hills, 75, died at the Memorial hospital about 11:15 Monday evening after a lingering illness. A former school teacher and former county superintendent of schools, Mrs. Hills was widely known in Mt. Pleasant and over Henry county.

Eva Allen Hills had served as a teacher for 51 1/2 years, teaching the elementary grades after 1896 until her retirement with the exception of four years while she was county superintendent. She retired as a teacher and principal at Saunders school here in the spring of 1948. She taught first at Douglas in Jefferson township, then at Wayland, Olds, Gravity, and Spencer. She came to Mt. Pleasant in 1926, teaching first at Willowbank.

The daughter of Alvin and Ara [Mahaffey] Allen, she was born June 9, 1879, at Wayland. She is survived by a son, Howard, four sisters and two brothers, W. J. Allen and Mrs. Omer Boshart of Wayland, Mrs. W. C. Hedges, Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Will E. Jones, Washington, Mrs. K. D. Bidwell, Casper, Wyo., and A. S. Allen of Fairfield; also two grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2:30 Thursday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. James Martin officiating. Interment will be at Forest Home cemetery.
