Funeral service for Mrs. Oliver Hess, an employee at the state hospital here who died at the Memorial Hospital, was held at Glenwood on April 29th. Dr. Fred W. Long officiated. Mrs. Whitney Gillilland sang and Mrs. Edwin Ther was the pianist.

The daughter of John Wesley and Elizabeth (Stone) Gillilland, she was born January 15, 1883 at Pacific City, Iowa. After graduation from the Glenwood high school in 1898, she graduated from Tabor College and later taught in the college. She was a successful teacher for many years in Jackson, Michigan during which time she received her Master's degree from Northwestern University with high honors. Since her marriage to Mr. Hess, she lived at Ottumwa and Mt. Pleasant. Besides her husband, two brothers and three sisters survive.
