Again we are called to face the stern realities of life. It would be well for us to meditate upon passing out of this world, for but once do we journey here. Death is inevitable, and each in turn must face this grave monster. The summons came to Mrs. Martha J. The summons came to Mrs. Martha J. (Ingrim) Gillard April 8, 1914, without previous warning, but found her ready and willing, she being an ardent follower of the one who came to give life to all who believe on him. Born December 18, 1857 she gave her early life to teaching school and was very successful in her chosen profession. Was married to W. C. McDonald March 13, 1889, who soon went to his rest. She was again united in marriage to C. G. Gillard February 8, 1905 and he also preceded her to the sleep from which none ever wake.

Mrs. Gillard was a good wife and neighbor, loved and esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss four brothers, J.T. and Stephen Ingrim of Salem, David of Denver, Colorado, and Edward of Shenandoah. A mother and sister only recently have gone to their rest. Her last Sabbath on earth was spent in the house of God where she always loved to go. Of her it may be said—as the heathen poet converted to Christianity as he journeyed through the promised land:

“If Jesus Christ is man
And only man—I say
That of all mankind I cleave to him
And to him will I cleave away.

If Jesus Christ is a God—
And the only God I swear
I will follow him through heaven and hell
The earth, the sea, and the air.

Funeral services were held in the Congregational church Saturday at 2 P.M. conducted by her pastor, Rev. O. G. Missmore. Interment in Salem Cemetery.
