Robert J. “Bob” Rich 78 of Wayland, died Friday, December 5, 2008 at the Henry County Hospital in Mt. Pleasant following a short illness.
Funeral Services have been set for 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastor Linda Renken officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be at the Cottonwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at Noon Monday at the Wayland Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 5-7:00 PM in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Hospice of Central Iowa, the Parkview Home in Wayland or the Cottonwood Cemetery Fund.

Bob was born January 16, 1930 in Henry County, Iowa the son of Velma Rich Messer. He was united in marriage to Mildred Verlee Hill on September 6, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Wayland and was employed at Blue Bird Midwest in Mt. Pleasant for 18 years retiring in 1993. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Bain-Hulme American Legion Post 401. He enjoyed trips to Branson, MO, playing cards, visiting with friends, selling cars, camping and sitting on his front porch.

Survivors include his wife Mildred of Wayland, seven children, Debbie (John) Campbell of Seminole, FL, Marla (William) Graf of Washington, Lorri (Russell) Conrad of Olds, Larry (Brenda) Rich of Mt. Pleasant, Patty (Karl) Krueger of Crawfordsville, Greg (Robin) Rich of Wayland and Joe (Cheryl) Rich of Mt. Pleasant; six siblings, Russell (Ina) Rich of Wayland, Norma (Jim) Meyer of Wayland, Roger (Vern) Messer of Williford, AR, Ruth Messer of Wayland, Dave (Jackie) Messer Knoxville, TN and Liz (Fred) Rugg of Wayland; eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
