Blanche Smith Gunter
Blanche Smith Gunter, 100, McLeansboro, Ill., formerly of Mount Pleasant, died at 4:40 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at Hamilton Memorial Nursing Center in McLeansboro.

Born March 28, 1907, in Hamilton County, Ill., she was the daughter of Alonzo and Amanda Thomas Allen. On March 19, 1927, she married Shirley B. Smith. He died June 1, 1964. On May 7, 1975, she married Stephen N. Gunter. He died May, 15, 1994.

Mrs. Smith Gunter was a nursing supervisor at Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institution for 30 years. She taught school in Hamilton County for three years. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and church organist.

In Mount Pleasant, she was a member of Mount Pleasant Business of Professional Women's Club. Following her retirement from MHI, she volunteered at Hamilton Memorial Hospital and Hamilton Memorial Hospital Nursing Center in McLeansboro.

Survivors include one son, Myron Smith of McLeansboro; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandsons.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers in infancy.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Friday at Forest Home Cemetery Chapel.

The graveside service for Mrs. Smith Gunter will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Forest Home Cemetery Chapel.

Weir & Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.
