Katherine K. Scarff, 87, of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Jan. 10, 1920, in rural Rome, she was the daughter of William Clark and Dora Beaber-Miller. On Sept. 22, 1940, she married Marvin Lanferman. He died in 1962. In 1966, she married Richard Scarff. He died in August 2005.

Mrs. Scarff was a secretary for Gaylor & Gaylor Law Offices and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and was a cook at the Mental Health Institute and Mount Pleasant Prison. She and her husband owned and operated Dick & Kay's Lounge in Rome for a number of years.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and attended Parson's College in Fairfield. She graduated from Burlington Business College.

She was a member of Rome Baptist Church and a past member of Women of the Moose. She loved good food and was a wonderful cook. She enjoyed watching television and spent many hours watching her beloved Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include her children, Reta Noblett-Feld of Iowa City, Randy Lanferman of Mount Pleasant and Mike Lanferman of Texas; two stepdaughters, Vicky Scarff of Wellman and Nora Scarff of Mount Pleasant; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Jo Miller and Pat Talbert, both of Galesburg, Ill., and Mildred Hill and Mary Federman, both of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Glen Miller of Mount Pleasant; nieces; and nephews.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. today at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Scarff will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rome Baptist Church with the Rev. John Royer officiating. Burial will be in Grant Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Rome Baptist Church and Grant Cemetery.
