Gary W. Abrisz
Gary W. Abrisz, 65, of Las Vegas, formerly of Mount Pleasant, died Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at his home.

Mr. Abrisz was born July 15, 1942, in Mount Pleasant. He married Eva Elmore in 1965 in Las Vegas.

Mr. Abrisz was a 1959 graduate of New London High School. He served in the Marine Corps from 1960-63. He earned his bachelor's degree in public administration from Upper Iowa University in Fayette. In 1974, he entered the Quality Assurance Specialist program in ammunition surveillance in Savannah, Ill. He continued to work for the Army in the U.S. and Germany as a safety and explosives expert. When he retired in 2002, it was as principal advisor and assistant for safety in the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations and Environment at the Pentagon in Washington.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Wendy Calder of Gloucester Point, Va.; one son, Martin Abrisz of Chesapeake, Va.; six grandchildren; four sisters, Marjory Isom of Pierce City, Mo., Macel Anderson of Mount Union, Clarice Jackson of Lubbock, Texas, and Dianne Kracht of New London; one brother, Dennis Abrisz of New London; nieces and nephews.

A private family funeral for Mr. Abrisz will take place in Las Vegas.

Palm Mortuary of Las Vegas is assisting the family with arrangements.

Memorials have been established for Disabled American Veterans and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation.
