Beverly Marie Roberts, 58, of Winfield, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Born Oct. 11, 1944, in Richland, she was the daughter of Frances "Pete" Harold and Vivian Lucille Lankford Hobbs. On Jan. 25, 1992, she married Irvin B. Roberts in Winfield.

Mrs. Roberts worked in dietary food service and was correction food service coordinator at the medium security unit in Mount Pleasant for 11 years. She also was a cook at the Henry County Home and at Sunrise Terrace in Winfield. She taught preschool in Winfield for several years.

She attended grade school in Lowell and was a 1962 graduate of New London High School. She enjoyed the outdoors, camping, campfires, fishing, boating, traveling and flowers. She liked antiquing, shopping, auctions, animals, reading, cooking and especially chocolate.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Cindy Logan of Platte City, Mo.; two sons, Michael Lyon of St. Cloud, Fla., and David Lyon of Norwalk; four stepsons, Jim Roberts and Mitch Roberts, both of Wagoner, Okla., and Brandon Roberts and Shawn Roberts, both of La Plata, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Sarah Furgason of La Plata and Sherri Lamky of Cobble Hill, B.C.; four grandchildren; 13 stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; her mother of Lowell; three brothers, Frank Hobbs of Burlington, Benny Hobbs of New London and Lee Hobbs of Broomfield, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and one sister.

Visitation will begin after noon on Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Roberts will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Winfield Presbyterian Church, with Richard Davis, Vernon Spenner, Leah Beyer and Anita Forsberg officiating. Burial will be in Winfield Scott Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Winfield Rescue Squad.
