Claren Garrison
Claren "Gary" Owen Garrison, 76, of New London, formerly of Burlington, died at 115 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1997, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Feb. 20, 1921, in Fairfield, he was the son of Loren and Nellie Nugen Garrison. On Oct. 26, 1940, he married Hazel Sammons in Mount Pleasant.
Mr. Garrison was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He worked in machine maintenance for Champion Spark Plug for 28 years, retiring in 1982. He previously worked at J.I. Case Co. for 13 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and V.F.W. Post No. 7641, both of New London.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rose Taylor of Lubbock, Texas, and Paula Hedges of Eatonville, Wash.; one son, Tyrone Garrison of New London; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Nellie Simons of Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one granddaughter; five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be after 8 a.m. today at Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 830 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Garrison will be at 130 p.m. Friday at Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Howland officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery, with military rites conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 7641.
A memorial has been established to Health West Cancer Center.
