ROBERT E. COGHLAN

Robert E. Coghlan, 73, 306 Race St., Mt. Pleasant, died at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 1990, at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.

He was born Aug. 26, 1917, at Deep River, the son of Adron I. and Erma K. Loftus Coghlan. On June 25, 1939, at Oskaloosa, he married Adra I. House.

He worked as a manager of several small stations for the Western Union Telegraph Co. until enlisitng in the U. S. Army, serving in the South Pacific during WWII. After the war, he was a postal clerk in the U. S. Post Ofice at Mt. Pleasant from 1947-1975, when he retired as assistant postmaster.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church; the Mt. Pleasant Masonic Lodge No. 8, where he served as lodge master in 1976; the KAABA Shrine, Davenport; the Henry County Shrine Club; Vererans of Foreign Wars Post 2561; the American Legion Post 58; and a 32nd degree Mason in the Scottish Rite Consistory.

He was one of the organizers of the Mt. Pleasant Little League and a charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Goal Line Club.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John Coghlan, Webster City, and Patrick Coghlan, Orange City; and five grandsons.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today, Nov. 12, at the First United Methodist Church, Mt. Pleasant, with the Revs. Deborah Kiesey and Christine Wagner officiating. Interment with full military rites, was in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church or the Shriners Children's Hospitals.
