Dillon John Hertig, 83, of Wayland, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at his home southeast of Wayland.

Born January 23, 1920, southeast of Wayland, he was the son of John B. and Lena Boese Hertig. On April 13, 1941, he married Mabel Kauffman in Wayland. She died Oct. 30, 2000.

Mr. Hertig attended Douglas country school. He was a member of the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church, and a life-long resident and farmer in the Wayland area, doing custom combining, corn shelling and grain hauling.

Survivors include his daughter, Betty Lou Miles of Wayland; two sisters, Freda Jeffries and Anna Stalder, both of Washington; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Allen Hertig; and two sisters, Francis Kable and Gladys Brenneman.

Visitation will begin at noon Monday at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland with family receiving friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service for Mr. Hertig will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with the Rev. Sharon Wyse Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for the Parkview Home in Wayland.
