Helen Clair Nicholson, 87, of Mount Pleasant, formerly of the Mount Union area, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Park Place Long Term Care Unit in Mount Pleasant. Born Sept. 29, 1916, in Winfield, she was the daughter of Theodore Elmer and Ada Louise Myers Schenk. On Sept. 1, 1934, she married Stephen Edwin Nicholson in Monmouth, Ill. He died Sept. 2, 1980.

Mrs. Nicholson was a homemaker. She grew up in Winfield and attended schools there. She lived most of her life in the Winfield and Mount Union areas, moving to Mount Pleasant in 1986. She was of the Christian faith. She was a member of AAA, AARP and Women of the Moose in Burlington. She enjoyed reading, gardening and also assisted with the Meals on Wheels program in Mount Pleasant.

Survivors include one son, Edwin C. Nicholson of Mount Union; one daughter, Carol Nicholson of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great–grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mrs. Nicholson will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Olson–Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Shaffer of Mount Union United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Meals on Wheels Program and the Henry County Cancer Fund.
