Robert Duayne Boal, 78, of rural Mount Pleasant, died Friday, June 25, 2004, at Henry County Health Center.
Born June 2, 1926, in rural Henry County, he was the son of Orrell and Bessie Fenton Boal. On June 8, 1952, he married Marilyn R. Hultquist at Swedesburg.
Mr. Boal served in the Army during World War II with the Occupation Forces in Japan. He then worked in the Swedesburg General Store. In 1953, he farmed at the Hultquist family farm near Swedesburg. He worked for Farmers Elevator Company in Olds and in its Mount Pleasant Purina Feed Store for 25 years until semi–retirement in 1993.
He was a member of Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. He was an active member of the Olds American Legion Post 626. Along with farming, he enjoyed flower gardening, woodworking and baking for the Swedish Heritage Museum.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Steve Boal of Ankeny; two daughters, Pam Fosdick of San Antonio, Texas, and Kim Granback of Oak Brook, Ill.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Henry and Glenda Alvine, both of Olds; and one brother, Jack Boal of Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and twin infant sisters.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Monday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Boal will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Philip Borleske officiating.
Burial with graveside military rites by the Olds American Legion will be in Swedesburg Church Cemetery.
A memorial has been established for Swedesburg Lutheran Church, Swedish Heritage Society, Olds First Responders or donor's choice.
