Florence Pauline Bergstrom, 93, of the Swedesburg community, died Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Ottumwa Regional Hospital.Born Sept. 26, 1910, in Pleasant Point, she was the daughter of Fredrick E. and Mary Claire Hedlund. She married Gilbert Bergstrom in Swedesburg. He died Nov. 13, 1971.

Mrs. Bergstrom worked as a registered nurse at Henry County Memorial Hospital and in later years at Mount Pleasant Mental Health Institute. She also did private duty nursing.

She was a 1928 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and a 1932 graduate of Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Burlington. She was a member of Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church and church–related organizations and the Swedish Heritage Society.

She enjoyed her flowers in the garden and playing the piano. She made her home with her sister in Ottumwa for the past five years.

Survivors include one son, Ted Bergstrom of Jacksonville, Ill.; three daughters, Margaret Bergstrom of Chicago, Donna Marsh of Clive and Marilyn Goldenberg of River Forest, Ill.; seven grandchildren; five great–grandchildren; and one sister, Barbara Merringer of Ottumwa.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, twin infant daughters, two brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Bergstrom will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Philip Borleske officiating. Burial will be in Swedesburg Church Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Swedesburg Evangelical Lutheran Church.
