Louise Lucile Lee Beeman was born April 11, 1922 at Noble, Henry County. She died Monday, May 1, 2000 at her home in Winfield. Louise was the daughter of Herbert Wesley and Mabel Beauchamp Lee.

She attended Union School, SW Swedesburg, her first years of schooling. She graduated from the Winfield High School in 1940, Salutatorian of her class and also graduated from high school with a Normal Training Teaching certificate. She attended Southeaster Community College at Burlington. She married Charles Beaman Nov. 1, 1941. They later divorced.

She taught Washington #4 school in Louisa County for two years. She sorted and carded buttons at America Pearl Button Company, Washington, for several months. She was relief telephone operator for Iowa Illinois Telephone Company in Winfield for seven years. In fact, she made the last connection before the dial. She did an answering service for professionals as a business in her home and performed a laundry service in her home.

She managed the Student Union at Simpson college in Indian for a year, also worked in the college cafeteria and kitchen with buffets and catering. She worked 17 years with dietary services of the State University of Iowa, Iowa City. She worked as a cashier of a coffee shop until it was automated out by machines, then as a dietary hostess with the patients of the University Hospitals, and then as a main line person of the Public Cafeteria of the Quadrangle.

For 10 years, she and her son, Earnest, were active volunteers on the ground trains at Midwest Old Threshers. She was also a member of the Museum of Repertoire Americana of Mt. Pleasant. Louise was also an active member of RSVP.

Her first Sunday School years were at Finley, southwest of Swedesburg. She held a Sunday in high school and she was a circle leader for a time and was a member of MYF. She was a member of the Winfield United Methodist Church for over 50 years, since 1937.

She is survived by one son, Ray Lee, and his wife, Vicki of West Burlington; a daughter-in-law, Florence Beaman, Winfield; two brothers and two sisters: Dorothy (Keith) Baker, West Burlington; Ivan (Bernice) Lee, Winfield; Harold (Gwen) Lee, Muscatine; and Betty (Terry) Huston, Winfield; four grandchildren: Lorene Foust, Pekin, Illinois; LeRoy Beaman, Marion; Robert (Angi) Beman, West Des Moines; and Jeffery (Tammy) Beaman, Mt. Pleasant; and six great-grandchildren: Rayelle, Scott, Nichole, Amber, Nathan and Cassandra; four nieces, eight nephews, two great-nieces and three great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Mabel Lee and by two sons, Ernest Lee Beaman and Beryl Burdette Beaman.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 4 at 10:30 A.M. from the Winfield United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Winfield-Scott Township Cemetery. Visitation began at noon on Wednesday, May 3 at the Honts Funeral Home in Winfield where the family met with friends from 6:30 – 7:30 P.M. A general memorial has been established in her name.

Honorary casket bearers are LeRoy Beaman, Robert Beaman, and Jeffrey Beaman. Casket bearers are Larry Baker, Jerry Lee, James Lee, Jeffrey Lee, Mark Huston, Todd Huston, Scott Huston, and Lynn Huston.
