From: Mt. Pleasant Daily News; 13 May 1916MOSES MOSLEY DEAD - Former Resident of this City Passed Away in Chicago
Lived a Long and Useful Life in This City - Was a Stone Mason by Trade- Funeral here Monday
Mr. Harry Burnaugh received word this morning that Mr. Moses Mosley, the uncle of his wife, had died Friday shortly after noon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hattie Richey, in Chicago. The body will be brought back here for interment, but it is not known on what train as yet. The funeral will be held on Monday, but the place and hour will be announced later.
Mt. Pleasant will remember Moses Mosley. He was a type of the old southern slave; a large powerful man, honest, generous, industrious and dependable. He was a stone mason and his handiwork is in many of the best structures of the city. He was respected by all who knew him. For many years he lived here, but two years ago his powerful form bending under the weight of many years he sold his modest home here and went to Chicago to spend the last days of his long and useful life with his daughter.
It was the ambition of Mr. Mosely to have published before his death his personal recollections of life in slavery. It was unfortunate that it was never put to print as it was a tale of intense personal interest. Mr. Mosley lived a long and useful life. He was a good citizen, a good man and his friends, white and colored, and hundreds in number will remember him with kindliness and esteem as they read of his death.
