Wilkerson MASON b 1812 VA, d Nov 11, 1886 Mt. Pleasant, Iowa
From: The Free Press; Nov 18, 1886The funeral of one of our old citizens Wilkerson Mason, who died so suddenly Thursday evening, was held at the A. M. E. church, Sunday afternoon. There being a very large attendance of his many friends, who mourn the loss of so good and faithful a Christian in the church. Though nearly 80 years old, the deceased was a man that could always be seen in the aged members pew, every beautiful Sabbath morning. He was loved by the old and the young, and many were the sad hearts at the church Sunday afternoon, to listen to the funeral sermon by the Pastor, Rev. D.P. Brown, who beautifully spoke of those who "die in the Lord".
The deceased was followed to Forest Home Cemetery, by his sister, Mrs. Orashio (Horatio) Clark and husband and many of their friends. The death of Mr. Mason being so sudden was quite a shock to his sister and brother, and especially to his niece, Miss Hattie Mason, who visiting the family, she having just buried her father a few days ago, in Knoxville, Iowa, he also being very well known in Mt. Pleasant, having once owned a barber shop here, hence two deaths within a month in the family: causes us all to lend Mrs. Clark and family our heart felt sympathy.
Many thanks does Mrs. Clark return to her friends and neighbors, for the assistance they gave during her trouble. Contributed by Francine Thompson, Momcine@aol.com
