Loren E. “Pete” Peterson, 86, Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, March 17, 2000 at 1 A.M. at the Park Place Long Term Care Unit. He was born October 6, 1913 in Oakland Mills, the son of John and Ruth Dusenberry Peterson. He received his education at Oakland Mills School.
On June 4, 1932 he married Margurite McClure. She preceded him in death on March 17, 1935. On March 19, 1949, he married Minnie Fm. Rich in Washington.
Mr. Peterson lived most of his married life in Wayland. He was a heavy equipment operator. He worked for Jack Schroder, New London, for several years. For the last 10 years prior to his retirement, he was employed by Fruin-Collin Corporation, Ft. Madison. Mr. Peterson worked on cars in his garage and was known for his avid storytelling.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie, Mt. Pleasant; one son, Rick Peterson, Shell Lake, Wisconsin; five daughters, Cheryl Hembry, Emerson; Linda Metcalf, Oakville; Gail Denning and Carol Stevenson, both of Des Moines; and Jan Heinz, Burlington. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, a sister, Juanita Jump, Yampa, Colorado, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Margaret, a son, Alden Peterson, one daughter in infancy, and by one brother, Hugh Peterson.
Visitation was held after 12 noon on Sunday, March 19 at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family received friends from 6:30 to 8 P.M. Sunday evening. Funeral services were held Monday, March 20, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. Burial was in the North Hill Cemetery, Wayland. Memorials have been established to Park Place Activity Fund and Oakland Mills Church.
