Otto Ensminger, 92, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Salem, Iowa and Lombard, IL, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.
A private family graveside will be held Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the Salem East Cemetery with the Rev. Harold Dorsey, pastor of the Salem Congregational Church officiating. There will be no visitation. The Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
Otto Galvarous Ensminger was born September 30, 1912 in West Point, Illinois, the son of Walter Thomas and Ethel Caroline Wiedmeyer Ensminger. Otto grew up in the West Point and Stillwell, Illinois areas, and later graduated from Salem High School in Salem, Iowa. He received a BA degree in business administration from Iowa Wesleyan College and then went on to obtain a BA degree in education from Northern Illinois University.
On July 17, 1943, he married Wanda Ducoff. Mr. Ensminger served his country for many years in the United States Navy. He retired from military service in 1964 as a Lieutenant Commander.
Following his career in the Navy, he became an Industrial Arts instructor at the Lincoln Junior High School in Berwyn, Illinois. He was a member of the Lapidary Club of Lombard, IL. Otto also enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Men’s Garden Club of Villa Park, IL.
Survivors include his son Walt Ensminger and his wife Deborah of Randolph, NJ; two grandchildren, Christopher Ensminger of Indianapolis, IN, and Brandon Ensminger of Randolph, NJ. Also surviving are three sisters, Thelma Foss and Almeta Simkin, both of Salem, IA, and Esther Agee of Yuma, Arizona.
