FIRST OFFICIAL MEETING.

Henry County Fair Association Launched at last.

The Henry County Fair Association is at length an assured fact. At its meeting Saturday afternoon the permanent organization was perfected, and the officers and directors elected. Next to this important move, was the proposition of the Salem-Hillsboro Fair Association to consolidate with the Henry County Association. The meeting was for stock holders only and the meeting well attended. By resolution the meeting was declared official and the following permanent officers elected: president, vice president, treasurer and secretary and a board of directors, consisting of eighteen stockholders.

The election was quite spirited and interesting. For president there were nominated the following good men: W.P. Young, Jas. Patten, J.D. Dugdale, Henry Traut, H.C. Brown, Wm. Wright and N.B. Andrews. The first ballot resulted in the election of Mr. W.P. Young of Marion township, the vote standing: Young, 18; Patten, 9; Wright, 4, and Andrews, Brown and Dugdale one each. For vice president, H.C. Brown and Jas. Patten were nominated. Mr. Brown was elected on the first ballot, the vote standing, Brown, 27; Patten, 14. For secretary there were but two candidates nominated, J.W. Palm and C.M. Clark. There was a splendid contest over this. It is said that Clark was the candidate of the horsemen, while Palm was the candidate of the more conservative element. Palm was elected, the vote standing, Palm, 22; Clark, 19.

For treasurer, Mr. Robert S. Gillis was elected by acclamation.

The board of directors was selected as follows:
Mt. Pleasant, Ward 1 J.D. Dugdale
Mt. Pleasant, Ward 2 W.H. Virden
Mt. Pleasant, Ward 3 C.M. Clark
Mt. Pleasant, Ward 4 Chancy Johnson
Baltimore twp., Henry Barker
Tippecanoe twp., J.A. Fairchild
Center twp., Wm. Beery
New London twp., J.W. Edgers
Canaan twp., Jas. Patton
Marion twp., C.W. Anderson
Trenton twp., J.C. Jay

There being no stockholders in Salem, Jefferson, Wayne and Scott townships, directors therefrom will be appointed later.

A committee on incorporation and bylaws was also appointed, consisting of F.S. Finley, J.W. Palm and W.P. Young.

The committee appointed to treat with the Salem Fair Association reported that the association would transfer its property to the Henry County association for [sic] $1,00.00 and take half of it in stock. The committee asked for further time. The meeting adjourned until Friday next, at 1:30 p.m.
