THE VETERANS OF 1812.

Eleven of the soldiers in the War of 1812 met at the Mayor’s office in Mt. Pleasant, on Monday afternoon last, to talk over the old days and take steps for procuring from the government, which long ago they had fought for, that the existence of a free republic might be an assured fact, the pensions which they have so well and nobly earned. Seated around the room were eleven old men, the hairs of whose heads were silvered by the frost fingers of Time, and whose bodies bent under the weight of accumulated years. Some of them appeared lively and still full of life, while most of them showed plainly that the weight of years was upon them and that soon they would put away their earthly armor and lie down to rest.

We give below the names of the old veterans:

JAMES S. HANNAHS. Born in Campbell County, Virginia, on the 16th day of August, 1784. In his 85th year. Lives in Center Township.

GUY W. SMITH. Born in Fayette County, Kentucky, on the 6th of May, 1792. In his 78th year. Lives in New London Township.

WILLIAM ROGERS. Born in Brunt County, Tennessee, on October 1st, 1780. In the 89th year of his age. Lives in Center Township.

WILLIAM COX. Born in the State of New York, on the 23d of July, 1798. In the 71st year of his age. Lives in New London Township.

SAMUEL HITE. Born in Fredrick County, Virginia, on the 20th of June, 1783. Is 86 years old. Lives in Center Township.

PETER FISHER. Born in Cafarris County, North Carolina, on the 24th of September, 1794. In the 74th year of his age. Lives in Center Township.

MOODY KIMBALL. Born in the State of Massachusetts, on the 1st of March, 1796. In the 74th year of his age. Lives in Center Township.

EBENEZER CHANDLER. Born in Windham County, Vermont, on the 10th of October, 1792. In the 76th year of his age. Lives in Center Township.

ABRAHAM MEHAFFEY. Born in Washington County, Pennsylvania, on the 6th of October, 1784. In the 85th year of his age. Lives in Center Township.

JOHN McKIERNAN. Born in Ireland, on the 3d of April, 1793. In the 77th year of his age. Lives in Center Township.

JOHN GRAY. Born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, on the 4th of June, 1793. Is now 76 years old. Lives in Center Township.
