LADIES LIBRARY ASSOCIATION – BOOK COLLECTION.
The large and valuable collection of books, which the Ladies Library Association have labored so long to secure, was badly damaged by the storm. The library was moved last spring to the third story of the old City Hall block on North Jefferson Street. That building lost its entire roof so that the entire library with all its furniture was exposed to the fury of the storm of Saturday night June 17th, and had little protection against the drenching rains of the follow week. The ladies have done what they could to save something from the drenched mass of books, but after they have done all that is possible there will be little left of their once large and splendid collection.
