Birthday Surprise

That is what overtook Mrs. Charles Ballard last Sunday. It was her 28th birthday anniversary and a host of friends planned and carried out a genuine surprise. They met in Sunday School at Cottonwood Church, and at the close of the school, the large company marched with well filled baskets to the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ballard. Mrs. Ballard was taken by complete surprise but she gave them a hearty welcome as their pleasant countenances and cheerful words evidenced that they were neither burglars nor robbers.

They had a splendid time and we are informed that the dinner was one of the best and most elaborate and that the entire company, without exception, ate as though it was their first meal for a week, or ten days, notwithstanding some of them were complaining of not feeling well. Rev. Ballard, Perry Bain, and Dave Neff seemed to vie with each other to see who could eat the most. They all gave it up simultaneously. The following are the names of those who were present: Rev. Shively and Judson, Mr. and Mrs. Perry Bain, Elmer and Bessie, Mr. and Mrs. Will Neff, Ben and Adie, Mr. and Mrs. Will Allred and Bessie, Mr. and Mrs. John Pangborn and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Davison and family, Mr. and Mrs. Late Glassburner and family, Homer Jarrard, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Neff and family, Misses Lillie, Minnie and Effie Weaver, Misses Nellie and Kittie Neff, Mr. and Mrs Charley Zear and Freddie, Mr. and Mrs. S. S. Hunt and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Neff and family, Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Neff, Mr. and Mrs. Will Hill and Lloyd, Mr. and Mrs Emil Borgstrand.
