An Interesting Case

Tuesday morning was occupied with the hearing of the foreclosure suit brought by Mr. J. E. Peterson against Peter Martin. The plaintiff is the well known merchant and banker of New London and the defendant is a Greek operating a show shining parlor in the Henry County town. Mr. A. M. Bowen of New London, and Mr. J. V. Gray of this city, appeared for the plaintiff, the same attorneys also represented Mr. Rose of New London who was also a mortgagee. Messrs Galer and Galer represented a machine company which claimed to have a lien upon machinery owned by the defendant while Mr. James Hourihan represented Steve Peterson, a Greek, who worked for Martin and who presented a claim for wages.

Peterson formerly worked in the Shoe Shining Shop on North Main Street in this city and his attorney wished Mr. Bacachelos, who now operates this shop, to act as interpreter. There was such a vigorous opposition to this from the other attorneys engaged, they claiming that Bakachelos was not a disinterested party, that it was decided to see if the trial could not proceed without enlisting the services of an interpreter. Many witnesses were called and the case will not probably be concluded until late this afternoon.
