KU KLUX KLAN TRIAL – DECISION

Jury Finds Shellhouse Guilty

After being out 30 hours, the jury in the case of the Town of Wayland vs E. B. Shellhouse returned a verdict of guilty, sustaining Mayor Magdefrau in placing a fine of $50.00 against Shellhouse for violation of the town ordinance.

The verdict was no surprise to those who heard the testimony and the Court’s instructions. Judgment in the appeal of Shellhouse was postponed pending motion for a new trial by his attorney. The motion for the new trial will be filed during this term of the district court and if not sustained, sentence will be made but subject to an appeal to the supreme court.
