The 25th -- This Regiment came down Saturday afternoon, and after marching through our streets, went aboard of the steamer Decatur and took their departure. This is a fine regiment, presenting a fine appearance, armed and equipped in the best manner, contrasting in this respect with the Regiments first quartered here, the 5th, 6th and 7th, which entered the service, marched over Missouri, skirmished and fought before they received their clothing.
Our town was crowded with people, anxious fathers, fond mothers and sisters, bidding good-bye to sons and brothers in this regiment. It was to us a sad spectacle, which we shall not attempt to describe. But on every occasion when it has been our painful duty to witness such scenes, and to take leave of dear friends, many of whom will never return, we have been more and more impressed with the wickedness of this rebellion, of the men who inaugurated it, and who are filling the whole country with mourning, because they were defeated at a Presidential election.

EDITOR HAWK - EYE:
I wish, through your excellent paper, to thank, in behalf of this Regiment, His Excellency Gov. Kirkwood, for using his name at the Bank to advance our Bounty pay, and to yourself in gratuitously furnishing us with 100 copies weekly of your valuable paper.

We learn that the barracks at Camp McKean, Mt. Pleasant, were burnt Saturday evening. We did not learn the particulars or the origin of the fire.[‘Burlington Daily Hawk-Eye’, Monday, 3 November 1862, page 3]
