July 3, 1934 - January 5, 2018

John H. Behrens, age 83, passed away January 5, 2018, at CHI-Mercy Hospital.

John was born July 3, 1934, in Woodbine, Iowa, to the late Hillert and Clara (Sorenson) Behrens. He was united in marriage to his wife, Donna Spencer, on May 15, 1953, in Missouri Valley, and to this union Deb, John, Rod, Gina and Kim were born. John worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years and at the same time, worked as a master drywaller for 25 years. He was an avid baseball fan and player and in his early years even had a tryout with the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a lifetime New York Yankee fan and a member of First Church of the Nazarene.

John is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna Jean, in 2009; sisters, Elaine Stephens and Dorothy Jacobsen; brothers, Donald and Marvin "Hoss".

Survivors include his children, Deb Powell and husband, Wayne, John Behrens and wife, Patti, Rod Behrens, Gina Behrens and special friend, Steve Carberry, Kim Harter and husband, Scott, all Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Ryan Powell and wife, Jennifer, Joshua Powell and wife, Emilie, Jacob Behrens and wife, Jessica, Lindsey Paulson and husband, Trent, Casey Hunter and wife, Terra, Cody Hunter and wife, Bri, Spencer Hunter and wife, Sydney; great-grandchildren, Henry Powell, Nina Sauvain and husband, Dillon, Nick and Trey Paulson; great-great-grandchild, Avery Sass; brother, Steve Behrens and wife, Jane, of Council Bluffs; sisters-in-law, June Behrens and Ruth Spencer; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation, Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services, Friday, 11 a.m., all at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery, followed by a luncheon back at Cutler-O’Neill Community Room, 545 Willow Ave. Family will direct memorials.
