Earl Dwaine Hack was born May 17, 1926, to Perry and Juliette (Baldwin) Hack in Dunlap, Iowa. Dwaine attended Kellogg Country School for eight years and graduated from Dunlap High School in 1943. Dwaine worked for Ryde and Company and the Karl Worrell Movie Theater. In July of 1945 he started working as a bookkeeper at the Dunlap Savings Bank under Glen Millard. He then bought his first car in 1947 from Ed Bonsall. In 1963 Dwaine attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin during the summer. It was quite a thrill for Dwaine to be away from home. In 1966 he graduated with a degree in banking. Dwaine did a lot of traveling for the bank to many parts of the United States. He especially enjoyed Hawaii, Salt Lake City and Orlando. Dwaine retired in 2000.
Dwaine was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dunlap; where he joined at age 10. Dwaine held many positions in the church including treasurer. He was also the Treasurer and Finance Officer for the City of Dunlap from 1971 until 2004. He was very instrumental in getting QLF to come to town and also the new highway going through town. In 1997 Giles Lacy asked Dwaine to work on financing the $600,000 for the new swimming pool. Dwaine was also involved with combining the library with the new school. Dwaine liked to golf, he served on the Dunlap Fire & Rescue, Department, refereed football and basketball games, was active with the Dunlap Booster Club, DCDC, and he helped with the 4-County Fair.
Dwaine died on Wednesday, August 30, 2017, at the Dunlap Specialty Care at the age of 91 years, three months, and 13 days.
Dwaine was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Dean Hack and Bill Hack; and sister, Rosanna Mitchell. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Linda Hack of Logan, Iowa; brother-in-law, Robert Mitchell of Dunlap, Iowa; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
