Edward Louis Gunia, Jr. was born August 28, 1937, to Edward and Albina (Zuchniak) Gunia, Sr. in Omaha, Nebraska. Ed was proud to be an SOB (South Omaha Boy). He attended school and graduated from South High School. Ed proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and served in Germany and Rome. On June 7, 1958, Ed married Bonnie Retz at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Omaha, Nebraska. Ed and Bonnie lived in Omaha for their first four years of marriage. Ed owned and operated a sandblasting company in Omaha. The family then moved to Dunlap in 1962. They bought 4 County Lanes in 1962 and operated the bowling alley and raised their family there. Ed worked for Jim Reischl at R.L. Craft in Denison from 1985-2010. Bonnie died on August 9, 2008.

Ed was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a Third Degree Knight of Columbus. He loved to fish, hunt and go to the casino. He was an avid nap taker. Ed never knew a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone.

Ed died on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 80 years and 30 days.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie Gunia; and grandson, Keegan Michael Gunia. He is survived by four children, Mike (Jennifer) Gunia and daughters, Madeline and Lilly of Dunlap, IA, Margie (Don) Nielson and daughters, Megan, Caitie and Nikki of Bellevue NE, Mark Gunia of Crescent, IA, Susie (Kevin) Young and daughter Sarah (Jake) Scott and their children, Addison, Evelyn and Charlotte all of Valley, NE; four siblings, Mary Ann Grieb of Des Moines, IA, Rich (Rosemary) Gunia and Leonard (Marylou) Gunia all of Omaha, NE, Lori (Rick) Kelly of Bellingham, WA; and many relatives and friends.
