Funeral services for Seth Gilbert Orris, 85, 715 Virginia St., Sioux City, were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Christian Church at Pierson. Russell Rodgers, minister of Church of Christ, officiated. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery at Pierson under direction of the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside.

Pallbearers were Lester Patterson, Bernard Chinn, Melvin Clark, and Robert, Joe and Ed McNamara. Mr. Orris died Sunday evening at a Sioux City hospital after a brief illness.

A former farmer in Cherokee County, Mr. Orris was born July 27, 1886, in Harrison County, Iowa. He moved to Cherokee County in 1911, farmed there until 1917, then moved to Pierson, where he worked as a carpenter and mechanic. He moved to Sioux City in 1964, and still worked as a carpenter. He was a member of the Christian Church at Pierson. He married Zoe Spence of Pierson February 12, 1914, in Sioux City.

Survivors include the widow, a son, the Rev. Dean Orris, minister of the Church of Christ of Akron, Iowa; a brother, William, of Sioux City, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
