Mrs. Martha Dunlavy Dies in Colorado

Mrs. Martha Dunlavy, 83, a pioneer resident of Harrison county, passed away at her home in Boulder, Colo., where she lived with a daughter, died Tuesday, February 13. A resident of Logan continuously until 13 years ago, she had been prominent in church, civic and Legion Auxiliary activities. Following is an account of her life which appeared in a Boulder newspaper:

Mrs. Martha Ann Dunlavy died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Bernice D. Gilson, 1035 Grandview at the age of 83.

Born November 15, 1861, in Guthrie County, Iowa, she was a child of a pioneer family, which had located in Iowa from Indiana and Illinois. She continued to make her home there until 13 years ago when she came to Boulder to be with her daughter.

On February 14, 1889, she was married to John Franklin Dunlavy, who died July 30, 1919, after a lingering illness.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dunlavy, Mrs. Gilson and Dr. Harry C. Dunlavy, who died April 19, 1926 of injuries suffered in an accident. He was a graduate of the medical school of Northwestern University and served in the medical corps overseas during World War I. Upon the end of that conflict he practiced his profession for six years before death.

Mrs. Dunlavy was a member of the Royal Neighbors and Rebekah lodges, also the American Legion Auxiliary, all at Logan, Iowa. She retained her membership in these organizations at Logan, since ill health prevented her from becoming active in the orders in Boulder. Mrs. Dunlavy was also a member of the Christian church.

Besides a daughter, a granddaughter, Mrs. W. L. Hennis of Roswell, N. M., and a sister, Mrs. Etta Sammons of Stuart, Iowa, survive.

Private services will be held at Howe mortuary, followed by cremation. Friends are requested not to send flowers. The ashes will be interred in the family lot in Iowa.
