Alvina, age 91, of Hubbard, died at Hubbard Care Center Inc. in Hubbard, IA. Alvina Anna (Stole) Brinkmeyer was born July 11, 1920, to John and Rachel (Tjelta) Stole in Garden City, Iowa. She was baptized August 15, 1920, and was confirmed October 7, 1934, affiliated with the Norwegian Lutheran Church of America. She received her first communion at Stavanger Lutheran Church in Garden City, Iowa. She received her education through Iowa Public Schools and graduated from the Radcliffe High School in 1938. She taught country school near Roland prior to getting married.
In 1940, Alvina was united in marriage to Freeman Brinkmeyer in Garden City, Iowa. They farmed in the Hubbard area for ten years before moving to Prairie Farm, Wisconsin. There they were engaged in dairy farming for the next ten years. In 1960, Alvina and Freeman returned to Hubbard, Iowa. Alvina thoroughly enjoyed cooking, making food service a career from 1962 – 1978. She cooked for various facilities, including restaurants, hospitals and nursing homes. She was also employed as bookkeeper for Mill Automation. Alvina always gave gladly to her community.
Alvina and Freeman were blessed with nine children: Jeffrey, Steven, Richard, Cynthia, Cathy, John, Rochelle, Linda and David. It was the enjoyment she received from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that gave her an unmatched wealth.
Alvina passed away peacefully with her family by her side September 24, 2011 at the Hubbard Care Center. She is survived by her children Jeffrey (Bonnie) Brinkmeyer, Steven (Susan) Brinkmeyer, Cynthia (Warren) Jansen, John (Maride) Brinkmeyer, Rochelle (Charlie) Allen, Linda (Herb) Beckwith, David (Sylvia) Brinkmeyer all of Hubbard and Cathy (Paul) Cory of Cedar Rapids; daughter-in-law Lynn Brinkmeyer of Hubbard; 24 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; sister Ilene Wiley of Albion; along with many other relatives and friends.
Alvina was preceded in death by her parents, husband Freeman, son Richard, son-in-law Keith Lake, granddaughter baby girl Lake, grandson Brent, brother Irvin and sisters Janice Carter, Rozella Geil and Marilyn Carlson.
