OBITUARY
OSCAR SAMPSON
Oscar Sampson, son of Samson Iverson Helvig and Karen Oldson, was born December 15, 1863, at Kvinherred, Norway. At the age of 2 1/2 years he came with his parents to Clinton county, Iowa, and a few years later moved to Hardin county.
On March 29, 1890, he was married to Synnova Seglem. Two children died in infancy, and in addition to his wife the deceased is survived by six children: Mrs. A. O. Berven of Garden City, Selmer Sampson of Radcliffe, Mrs. Leo Schwartz of Hubbard, Alfred Sampson of Story City, Rev. Perry Sampson of Huxley, and Mrs. Ed Handeland of Delavan, Minn. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The deceased was baptized in the church in Norway as a child and confirmed in Bergen church at Roland, of which church he was a faithful member until the time of his death.
With the exception of 14 years spent in business in Garden City Mr. Sampson was engaged in farming in Concord township, in which township he spent 64 of his 76 years, retiring a few years ago to spend his last days at the farm home 1 1/2 miles northwest of Garden City.
Death came Tuesday evening, July 1, after an illness of one month following an operation. Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, with services from the home at 1:30 and from Stavanger church in Garden City at 2:00. In addition to the floral offerings In Memoriam gifts totaled $101.25.
