Norm was born on January 22, 1933, the son of Henry and Anna Klein Kastendick. He graduated from the Alden High School in 1951. He trained as a Ranger in the U.S. Army at Fort Benning before heading overseas to serve his country in the Korean War from 1953 to 1955 where he earned a Bronze Star. He also served as head of the Quartermaster Corps during his service there.
Norm farmed with his father and worked for the USDA. On June 20, 1958 he was united in marriage to C. Jeanne Campbell. In addition to farming, he was a direct pay agent for Wellmark BlueCrossBlueShield of Iowa until his retirement. But above all his accomplishments, his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ was the most important thing in his life.
