Death of Mrs. O. Halleland
Mrs. Martha O. E. Halleland was born the 15th of September, 1829, at Etne, Norway, and passed away at Garden City on August 24, 1919. Was married to Ole Halleland, immigrated to America, settling at Lisbon, Illinois, in 1881. Three years later they moved to Story City, Iowa. Seven years ago they moved to the John Sorenson farm near Garden City. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Mrs. Ole Gilbertson near Ellsworth and Mrs. John Sorenson, both having preceded her in death. Mrs. Halleland had been feeble for some time, and went to sleep peacefully in the faith of her Lord and Master at the age of 98 years, 11 months and 9 days. Her aged husband, sixteen grand children and 18 great grand children survive to mourn the loss of a faithful wife and a loving grandmother.
Funeral took place Tuesday 1 p.m. at the home and at 2 p.m. at the church. Interment was made at the Garden City cemetery. Rev. J. J. Lee officiated.
SUBMITTER'S NOTE: The above obituary references the deceased as Martha O. E. Halleland. I believe the O. E. references her husband who on their daughter's marriage record, Carrie/Kari Olsen (who married John Sorenson), lists her parents as Ole Eliassen and Martha Halvorsen. Since Kari's father's first name was Ole her surname is listed as Olsen.
