Radcliffe Woman was Laid to Rest

Special to the Journal:
Radcliffe, Nov. 23--Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Evangelical church, for Mrs. Minnie Ruemper, who died at her home in Radcliffe, Nov. 14. Rev. L. B. Russel, pastor, was assisted by Rev. B. K. Barstad, Rev. L. J. Runion of Radcliffe and Rev. J. D. Klooz of Nevada. Burial was in the Radcliffe cemetery.

Mrs. Ruemper was born May 11, 1848 in Nienburg, Germany. She came to America in 1870 living for a time in Chicago and near Aplington, Iowa. August 28, 1870 she was married to John Ruemper and with her husband came to Hardin county in 1872, settling just where their present home is located. Here Mrs. Ruemper mad her home for 64 years. The town of Radcliffe was built on part of the Ruemper property. In the early days church services were held in her home and she was the last charter member of the St. Johns Evangelical church.

Surviving are her son, S. W. Ruemper of Radcliffe, two daughters, Mrs. F. A. Pennington of Des Moines and Mrs. Amanda Smith of Radcliffe. Her husband preceded her in death in 1926; also one daughter, Mrs. Ella Stukenberg who died Feb. 11, 1920. Four grandchildren, Wayne Stukenberg of Radcliffe, Raymond Ruemper and Mrs. Vernie Reisetter of Des Moines and Mrs. Harlan Bindeman of Oakland, Calif. Three great-grandchildren, Ellen and Romayne Reisetter and Marcia Ruemper of Des Moines.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the last rites were Fred Rosenwinkle sr. of Clarksville, Mrs. Minnie Anklan, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Mathwig of Dunnell, Minn., Rev. and Mrs. J. D. Klooz and Fred Kahl of Nevaca, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grove of Ames, Fred Pennington, Will Stukenberg, Clarence Reisetter and Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Ruemper of Des Moines.
